Cisco Meraki iPSK

How to Automate Lifecycle Management

Cisco Meraki iPSK gives every user or device a unique pre-shared key on a single SSID — ideal for apartments, student housing, offices, and assisted living. But provisioning, rotating, and revoking thousands of keys by hand doesn't scale. Cloud4Wi automates the entire iPSK lifecycle on top of Meraki — with self-service onboarding, scheduling, and WPN — so there's zero IT busywork.

— ABOUT CISCO MERAKI IPSK

What is Cisco Meraki iPSK?

Meraki iPSK (Identity Pre-Shared Key) lets administrators assign unique pre-shared keys to different users, groups, or devices within the same SSID — each with its own key and access rights. Unlike traditional WPA2-PSK, which uses one password for everyone, iPSK gives individualized credentials, improving both security and control.

Key benefits:

  • Enhanced security — each user or device gets a unique key, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
  • Seamless device management — ideal for tenant WiFi, IoT, and smart-home devices in shared spaces.
  • Network segmentation — users are placed on their own VLAN for privacy and traffic isolation.
— THE CHALLENGE

Why managing iPSK at scale is hard

Without RADIUS, basic Meraki iPSK is limited to 50 PSKs per SSID — fine for separating a few device types, but not for a building where every tenant needs their own key. Meraki's WPN raises that ceiling to thousands of keys per SSID, but creating, rotating, and expiring them by hand — on the exact move-in and move-out dates — still becomes the bottleneck.

— USE CASE

Wired and wireless personal networks

When each unit or room has its own access point (such as the MR36H), Cloud4Wi assigns a dedicated iPSK per resident and automatically configures the access point's Ethernet ports to match that resident's network segment — so wired and wireless devices share one private network.

Mary

Mary, a student, is working on her laptop in her room, connected to WiFi with her personal iPSK through the MR36H access point installed there. Her printer is wired to the same access point, allowing her to print seamlessly.

Lisa

Lisa, a resident from another room, is visiting Mary. Her smartphone connects to the MR36H access point in Mary’s room using her own personal iPSK. Even while in Mary’s room, Lisa can still print to her own printer back in her room.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Cisco Meraki iPSK

Meraki iPSK (Identity Pre-Shared Key) assigns a unique pre-shared key to each user, group, or device on the same SSID. Unlike WPA2-PSK, which uses one password for everyone, iPSK gives individualized credentials and per-user VLAN segmentation. That improves security and control, and lets many users share one network name while staying isolated.

Without a RADIUS server, basic Meraki iPSK is limited to 50 PSKs per SSID — enough to separate a few device types. Meraki's Wi-Fi Personal Network (WPN) raises this dramatically, supporting thousands of keys per SSID, which is what makes per-tenant keys practical in multifamily and campus deployments.

Cloud4Wi integrates with Meraki's dashboard APIs to automate the full iPSK lifecycle — creating keys, scheduling activation and expiration, propagating self-service changes, and revoking keys when a service ends. Property and IT teams manage thousands of keys from one platform instead of provisioning each one manually in the Meraki dashboard.

Yes. Cloud4Wi gives each resident a self-service portal where they can view and change their iPSK and grant temporary guest access, with no IT ticket required. This reduces support load on property and IT teams while giving residents instant control over their own WiFi credentials whenever they need it.

Yes. When each unit has its own access point, such as the MR36H, Cloud4Wi automatically configures the Ethernet ports to match the resident's iPSK network segment. Residents connect wired devices like printers and wireless devices like laptops on the same private network, with isolation from other units' traffic.

No. Cloud4Wi is hardware-independent and runs over the top of your existing Meraki network — no rip-and-replace and no firmware lock-in. It relies on Meraki's native iPSK and WPN capabilities and adds the automation, scheduling, self-service, and lifecycle-management layer on top, so you keep your existing investment.
